From Scratch Cakery

Mmmm, salted caramel... (said in Homer Simpson voice)
update: no longer in business

From Scratch Cakery recently opened in the plaza across from the Perinton Wegmans, and I checked it out on Wednesday. As soon as I walked in, I was hit with the delicious smell of just-baked (or still-baking) cupcakes, and I saw plenty of cupcake options on the counter. That day, you could choose from vanilla, double chocolate, red velvet, lemon raspberry, old fashioned yellow cake, chocolate salted caramel (the one I chose, above), coffee, and orange creamsicle. (Some of that is from memory and the rest from their Facebook page.)

Cupcakes are $2.50 each (a sign by the register mentions a $10 credit-card minimum), frosting shots cost $1.50, and on the day I went, the friendly staff was offering free samples of purple, iced sugar cookies. The bakery has no seating except for a table with a sign proclaiming it a "consult table," which must be for special orders. I will definitely be back for another salted caramel cupcake--the frosting was some of the best I've ever eaten.
